More progress

Hi All! I’ve been keeping busy as my real job has been really slow. I finished another Gaptastic cowl for a friend’s wife. I knit it up in red Baby Alpaca. After knitting with Baby Alpaca, my fingers may never be satisfied with wool ever again. It was so soft and silky, warm and stretchy…aaahhhh….I’m hooked. Here’s the finished product, all packed up and ready to be given. I want to keep it.  🙂

And I dyed a skein of wool/silk for my friend who asked for a yellow skein. I love how it came out….I call the colorway “Bode”, after the sunny, happy, little blonde cutie it reminds me of.

Unfortunately, once again, the photo doesn’t do it justice. There are some darker orangey tones running throughout it that didn’t get picked up in the photo.

I started my very first toe-up sock!

It’s not hard at all! I just started the sock the same way I start my hexipuffs. It’s coming along slowly, but surely. It’s knit in the round on 2 needles, like the hexipuff. I find it to be a little fiddley, but I’m getting used to it. I love the color I’m using. It’s one of the Sanguine Gryphon skeins my sister bought me. The colorway is called Roja.

And now I’m about to start another commissioned project, yay!! 2 different friends have asked for the cabled slouchy hat I made my mother in law for Christmas. So tonight I will start the first one. I wish I could make my whole living knitting and dyeing yarn. This having a real job stuff just gets in the way!

I leave you with a picture of two super cuties who got to see each other for a playdate this past weekend. Emmet and Jack.

Kai Mei is half done!

After many mistakes, and lots of tinking back, and lots of mistakes just left in there, the first sock is done.

Now that I’ve got the first one under my belt, I think the second should be no problem. These will be this year’s Christmas gift for my little sister. She picked out the pattern and it’s actually a fun one.

It’s hard to believe July is close to being over… I still feel like summer just started! Emmet’s been getting friendly with the wildlife in the backyard.

He found 2 of these tiny guys while I was mowing the lawn. He saved their little lives.

So I’m feeling like Christmas will be here before I know it. And this year I am determined to have the presents knitted BEFORE Christmas. I’ve done the calculations, and I believe it’s possible. I have 7 gifts to finish before December. I mapped them out on my calendar, and I have a plan in progress. Hopefully I can finish the second Kai-Mei sock within 2 weeks. I’ll keep you posted!

Li’s Christmas socks

Ok, so they’re a little late. She’s my little sister, and she understands that socks take a lot of effort and time. But here they are, finished last night.

The pattern is called Cauchy from Cookie A’s book, Sock Innovation.

So, the pattern was really easy. And although proud of another pair of finished socks, I’m not in love with them. Aesthetically, the pattern itself is just ok…nothing as illustrious as Cookie’s other socks, but I needed something simple to work with the yarn. The yarn is the problem.

I used a yarn called Zauberball. When I saw the tiny picture on the skein, with the color softly blending in and out on a pair of socks, I fell in love and got excited. The yarn screamed out LIANA and I knew this was to become her requested pair of Christmas socks. But then the yarn got all super fuzzy as I was knitting it. I wasn’t happy about that, but the colors faded and blended properly on the first sock…the one on the left. Then came the right sock, and I realized as I was finishing up the heel, that the color had changed too quickly (GASP) and now the gusset was not looking like the beautiful fade of the first sock, but more like a stripe of different color across the top! This was NOT what was supposed to happen.
Sigh….what’s one to do? I wasn’t about to frog the sock after having knit the whole leg already. I’m not THAT much of a perfectionist. And I know Li won’t mind. So, anyway, here they are.

Now comes the fun part of deciding what pair of socks to knit next! I have been wanting to learn how to knit Toe-Up socks, so maybe I’ll try that.
